The World Alliance of Pituitary Organizations (WAPO), a leading non-profit uniting pituitary patient advocates worldwide, has announced the launch of its Blogs & Vlogs 2025, an innovative initiative designed to amplify the voices of patients, experts and advocates around the world.

WAPO’s mission is to connect the international pituitary community, promote the exchange of information and support improved treatment and care for all individuals living with pituitary and related conditions. This new multimedia series builds on that foundation by delivering expert insights in a compelling and accessible format.

Each instalment of the series will feature a video interview alongside a companion blog article, summarizing key takeaways and providing helpful resources for further learning.

The first episode of the 2025 series spotlights Johan G Beun, ambassador of AdrenalNet (BijnierNET) in the Netherlands. Drawing on the findings of a Dutch multi-stakeholder project, Johan offers a powerful dialogue on employment and the real-world challenges faced by individuals living with adrenal insufficiency or pituitary disorders. People with adrenal insufficiency or pituitary disorders often face delayed diagnoses, fragmented healthcare and employment challenges due to systemic gaps, pseudo-privacy rules and gender bias. Johan advocates for a collaborative, patient-centred approach across healthcare, employment and mental health services, emphasizing flexibility, awareness and the value of meaningful work in maintaining well-being and social inclusion.

In the second episode, Prof. Márta Korbonits, a leading expert from the Barts and London School of Medicine at Queen Mary University of London, shares her insights into the rare condition of pituitary gigantism and its genetic causes. She discusses how the disease is diagnosed and managed, highlighting the vital role of early, multidisciplinary care in improving patient outcomes. Prof. Korbonits also emphasizes the critical aspects of transitioning from paediatric to adult care, outlining best practices to ensure continuity and quality of care throughout a patient’s journey.

In the latest episode, Dr Sandra Aleksic, Assistant Professor of Medicine in Endocrinology and Geriatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, explores how aging affects hormone levels in people living with pituitary conditions. She discusses how hormone replacement therapy may need to be adjusted in older adults, highlights key findings from the TRAVERSE and ERCUSYN studies, and explains how symptoms of aging can overlap with those of pituitary disorders. Dr Aleksic also offers practical tips to help patients improve their quality of life and support healthy aging.
