Dr John Doupis is a former clinical research fellow of the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA, USA and scientific partner in Beth Israel Deaconess Foot Center Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. Currently, he is directing the Diabetes Division and Clinical Research Center of Iatriko P. Falirou Medical Center in Athens, Greece. He has served as a principal investigator in many multicentre phase I, II, III and IV clinical trials, most of which have been published in international journals or presented at congresses. He is a registered reviewer and a member of the editorial board for many major diabetes medical journals. He has given numerous lectures in national and international congresses, presenting over 200 abstracts. His special areas of interest are diabetes and its complications, especially obesity, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic foot, as well as the glucose sensing technologies and insulin pumps. In these fields, he has published more than 50 papers in international medical journals, having more than 1,500 citations.

Prof. Chantal Mathieu is a physician-scientist who has contributed to the field of diabetes and endocrinology through basic and clinical research. Her basic research work focuses on pathogenesis and prevention of type 1 diabetes. Prof. Mathieu’s clinical work involving new products and treatment paradigms in diabetes, such as new insulins, adjunct therapies and diagnosis of gestational diabetes have made her a speaker in international fora. Prof. Mathieu coordinates the European clinical trial network for interventions in type 1 diabetes ‘INNODIA’ and the European project ‘EDENT1FI’ on screening for type 1 diabetes. Linda Siminerio, RN, PhD is Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Professor of Nursing, Health and Community Systems at the University of Pittsburgh. She has led a career in diabetes research and education. An internationally recognized expert on self-management education and health care delivery models in both pediatric and adult populations, she serves as the Principal Investigator on many studies related to diabetes treatment.
Dr Siminerio has authored numerous publications and served as editor on several diabetes journals. She was President of Health Care and Education, American Diabetes Association and Senior Vice President, International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Past-Chair of the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP). In these positions, she has organized and led national and international efforts on the development of programs, standards and care models directed toward health professionals, patients and the community.

Dr Alexander Miras graduated from medical school at Imperial College London, UK, and trained as a junior doctor and Specialist Registrar in Diabetes and Endocrinology in the London deanery rotations between 2002-2010. In 2010, he was awarded with a Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Research Training PhD fellowship, which enabled him to investigate the effects of bariatric surgery on food reward using functional neuroimaging and behavioural methodologies both in humans and rodents. He is currently Consultant Endocrinologist in Birmingham and Honorary Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Birmingham; he is Head of the Centre for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He leads the metabolic bone diseases unit in Birmingham and additionally leads a number of national work streams through the National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) as Trustee and Chair of the Clinical and Scientific Committee. He is co-author of the NOS UK Vitamin D Guidelines and he further advises NICE on bone metabolism therapies and the British National Formulary on endocrine therapies. He has been honoured by award of the Goulstonian Lectureship at the Royal College of Physicians. Neil is Vice-Chairman of the Clinical Reference Group for Specialised Endocrinology, NHS England. He is also Vice-Chairman of Council of the West Midlands Clinical Senate. He has published widely and has lectured at many national and international conferences. He sits on editorial boards of four journals, with roles including Section Editor and Associate Editor; he has wide experience in multiple modalities of peer review. Neil’s main clinical and research interests focus on disorders of calcium homeostasis and rare causes of osteoporosis.

His contributions to scientific literature include more than 600 journal articles and 60 book chapters. He is co-author of a book for patients with heart disease, Heart411 released by Crown Books on January 31, 2012.
Dr. Nissen works closely with pharmaceutical companies on the development of new therapies for cardiovascular disease, but maintains a longstanding policy of requiring companies to donate all related honoraria directly to charity so that he receives neither income, nor a tax deduction.
In 2001, he co-authored the first manuscript (JAMA) that raised concerns about the cardiovascular safety of rofecoxib (Vioxx™), which was withdrawn from the market 3 years later. In 2007, he authored a NEJM manuscript that demonstrated that the widely used diabetes drug rosiglitazone (Avandia™) raised the risk of myocardial infarction, eventually leading in 2010 to withdrawal of the drug in Europe and severe restrictions in the US.
In 2007, Time Magazine selected Dr. Nissen as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Beginning in 2015, he was named by Thompson-Reuters as one of the world’s most highly cited physician-scientists.

He has been Chief Investigator for many multi-centre trials investigating novel therapies for diabetes.
Professor Bain is the Diabetes Lead Clinician for the Swansea Bay University Health Board and a member of the Wales Diabetes & Endocrine Society (WEDS) executive committee. He chairs the Joint Clinical Research Facility in Swansea and was Clinical Director of the Academic Health Science Collaboration (AHSC) in Wales until September 2015. Dr Ali strives to improve outcomes for people living with Diabetes; she is on the committee for the NICE Diabetes guidelines and has also undertaken a number of national diabetes projects, including co-authoring a national guideline on the best delivery of Diabetes in the PCNs on behalf of NHS England. Being a Trustee for the South Asian Health Foundation (SAHF) furthermore has allowed Sarah to help address health inequalities. She is due to become a Trustee for Diabetes UK in May 2022.
A passion for both science and the humanities keeps her balanced and harmonious. She is trilingual and a visual artist and colourist. Sarah creates contemporary/abstract medical art and working on a number of art projects to raise health awareness, including in diabetes. Dr Ali has exhibited art, sold paintings, created the artwork for a music cover album and has had a painting featured in Nature Medicine. She has recently created the artwork for a poetry collection about living with type 1 diabetes, which Sarah and her poet friend have published as a book Bittersweet. Dr. Lebovitz is an internationally recognized authority in the field of diabetes. He and his colleagues have contributed to the understanding of the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, particularly as it relates to ethic and racial differences, to mechanism of action and clinical utility of therapeutic agents used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and to the effects of body composition on insulin resistance and its associated abnormalities.

He has received many awards, including the Albert E. Dr. Dagogo-Jack is the recipient of the 2008 Distinction in Clinical Endocrinology Award from the American College of Endocrinology and the 2009 Meritorious Achievement Award from the National Medical Association.

Dr. Chrousos has focused his research on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and has extensively studied the neuroendocrine alterations associated with mood disorders, sleep, pain perception, and immune function.
According to the ISI, Dr. Chrousos is among the 200 most prominent clinical investigators in the world. He has authored more than 1000 scientific publications, has edited 23 books and his work has amassed over 40,000 citations.

Dr. Bode is a diabetes specialist who has authored 200+ peer reviewed publications.
He has served on the board of directors of the Georgia chapters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and the Georgia diabetes camps. He is a past president of the ADA Georgia Affiliate, editor of the ADA’s 2004 edition of Medical Management of Type 1 Diabetes, and a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology.

Dr. Braunstein’s research interests are in the fields of reproductive endocrinology with extensive basic and clinical studies on the placental hormone human chorionic gonadotropin and thyroid cancer.
Dr. Braunstein has published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, monographs, chapters and reviews dealing with human chorionic gonadotropin, pregnancy, testicular and ovarian physiology and pathophysiology, pituitary disorders and thyroid disease.
Dr. Braunstein is a member of a number of societies, including the Endocrine Society, the American Thyroid Association, the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians. He is a past Chair of the Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and currently serves as Special Advisor to that organization. Dr. Braunstein also served as Chair of the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Subspecialty Boards for the American Board of Internal Medicine. The recipient of numerous awards and was named “Top Endocrinologist” by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Dr. Abrahamson’s research interests include the management of patients with diabetes, and prevalence of silent coronary ischemia in patients with diabetes. He has co-authored guidelines for both the pharmacological and perioperative management of patients with diabetes and management of hyperglycemic emergencies, and has authored more than 50 papers, review articles and chapters related to diabetes.
Dr. Abrahamson has been cited in Boston Magazine as one of Boston’s top doctors on numerous occasions and has delivered numerous invited lectures nationally and internationally on the management of diabetes. In 2010 he was the recipient of the Samuel Eichold II Memorial Award for contributions to Diabetes from the American College of Physicians.
