In response to the increasing prevalence of obesity, the consumption of high-calorie and high-sugar foods and an unprecedented aging population, type 2 diabetes (T2D) continues to rise globally. The International Diabetes Federation reported that 589 million individuals aged 20 to 79 years had ...
Topline data from the TRIUMPH-2 and TRIUMPH-3 trials show substantial weight loss, improved glycemic control, and favorable changes in cardiometabolic risk markers with the investigational triple hormone receptor agonist in adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes or established cardiovascular disease.
A new Endocrine Society statement has reinforced the importance of accurate diagnosis and appropriate clinical assessment before testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is initiated in men with hypogonadism.1 Published July 16, 2026, the statement reiterates that treatment should not be based on symptoms alone and highlights continuing uncertainties around the long-term safety of TRT. It follows an FDA expert panel that reviewed testosterone eligibility criteria in December 2025, Society comments submitted to the FDA in February 2026, and new prescribing-pattern data presented at ENDO 2026, the Society's annual meeting, in June.
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a progressive metabolic condition associated with obesity, cardiovascular disease and substantial morbidity and mortality.1 Despite the availability of multiple glucose-lowering therapies, a significant proportion of individuals with T2D fail to achieve recommended glycemic targets, ...
Achieving clinically meaningful weight loss and cardiometabolic targets is a key goal in the management of obesity and type 2 diabetes, particularly in people at elevated cardiovascular risk. In this analysis of the phase 3 STEP UP T2D trial, researchers evaluated the extent to which participants treated with semaglutide 7.2 mg, semaglutide 2.4 mg or placebo achieved predefined BMI, waist-to-height ratio and cardiometabolic targets after 72 weeks. In this interview, Prof. Carel le Roux discusses the rationale for assessing these treatment targets, the key findings from the analysis and their implications for the use of higher-dose semaglutide in people with obesity and type 2 diabetes.
New data presented at ENDO 2026 highlighted the continued evolution of endocrine care, with studies spanning rare disease management, long-term hormone replacement, artificial intelligence-supported screening and real-world treatment outcomes. Across several presentations, investigators reported sustained improvements in biochemical, metabolic, skeletal and patient-reported outcomes, while also emphasising the importance of long-term follow-up and careful interpretation of emerging data.
Data presented at ENDO 2026 highlighted investigational approaches for difficult-to-control type 2 diabetes and acquired hypothalamic obesity, real-world outcomes with tirzepatide, and wider health impacts of GLP-1-based therapy.
Peripheral neuropathy is a common and clinically heterogeneous condition resulting from damage to the peripheral nervous system, affecting sensory, motor and autonomic fibers.1 Its diagnostic complexity stems from a broad spectrum of etiologies, including metabolic, autoimmune, infectious, toxic, neoplastic and ...
Adults with prediabetes who received an intensive lifestyle intervention in the Diabetes Prevention Program were less likely to develop multiple chronic conditions over long-term follow-up than those assigned to placebo, according to an analysis published in JAMA.1 A similar reduction was not observed with metformin.
Following ECO 2026, Dr Line Kristin Johnson discusses new evidence supporting structured rapid weight loss programmes, highlighting their potential to improve long-term weight loss, achieve risk-reduction targets and reshape obesity management.
In this interview, Diana Isaacs shares her highlights from the 2026 AACE Annual Meeting, discussing key advances in diabetes management, obesity treatment and diabetes technology, alongside emerging priorities for future endocrinology research and guideline development.
Welcome to the summer 2026 issue of touchREVIEWS in Endocrinology. In this issue, we bring together articles that reflect the evolving complexity of endocrine and metabolic disease, while highlighting the growing importance of patient-centred care, translational science and interdisciplinary management. We ...
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) and GLP-1RA-based therapies are currently considered to be one of the most attractive classes of medications for managing type 2 diabetes (T2D) because of their impressive weight loss properties, glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) ...
Urinary lithogenesis processes are activated in patients with obesity, metabolic syndrome (MetS), and type 2 diabetes (T2D). This is a relatively unfamiliar topic among endocrinologists. Beyond the epidemiological evidence accumulated over the recent years, the purpose of this paper is ...
The global prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has increased over the past three decades and is estimated to be 30% as of 2022.1Â As an indication of disease burden, MASLD-related liver transplantation has already surpassed many other aetiologies as ...
The past century has witnessed substantial evolution in the assessment and management of type 1 diabetes (T1D), paralleling advances in our understanding of the condition and in innovation in technology. Since the ground-breaking discovery of insulin in the 1920s, T1...
Insulin resistance (IR), a hallmark of various metabolic disorders, represents a diminished responsiveness of target tissues to the actions of insulin, resulting in impaired glucose uptake, dyslipidaemia and endothelial dysfunction.1,2 Worldwide, the prevalence of IR among adults ranges from 15.5% to 46.5%.3–5 ...
